Hantavirus in Washington State: What Greater Seattle Residents Need to Know
Most people in Seattle and Bellevue think hantavirus is a remote rural problem. That assumption is dangerous. In Washington State, deer mice carrying hantavirus are present across forests, garages, sheds, cabins, crawlspaces, and even suburban storage areas. While infections are rare, the fatality rate can exceed 35%, making awareness and prevention critically important.
